Bestwood Residents Disturbed by Nightmarish Conditions Caused by New-Build Homes Construction

Residents of Bestwood, Nottingham, are expressing their frustration and anger over new-build homes that have been causing a nightmare in their lives. Complaints include builders blocking driveways and creating excessive noise disturbances.

Peter Walker, a long-time resident of the area, described the situation as a "nightmare" for the community. He highlighted the issue of builders repeatedly obstructing access to residents' driveways, a problem that continues to worsen without consideration or respect for the residents. The construction activities, which start as early as 6:30 am and continue beyond the allowed working hours, have disrupted the tranquility of the residential area.

The ongoing works in Bestwood are being carried out by Lovells. Beth Bundonis, Interim Regional Managing Director for Lovell East Midlands, acknowledged the early start of work and apologized for the disruption caused. Measures will be taken to ensure subcontractors adhere to the designated core working hours in the future. The company maintains that they are unaware of any instances of site vehicles parking on driveways and asserts that parking is confined to the site itself, though some occasional maneuvers may be required due to the size of the vehicles.

The Nottingham City Council is working closely with Lovell to minimize disruptions to residents during the development of new homes in the area. They are committed to addressing concerns and ensuring the construction proceeds with minimal inconvenience for the local community.

This is not the first time that Bestwood residents have faced issues with new-build developments. Previously, massive dust clouds originating from a nearby building site left houses covered in a layer of black dust. The pollution from the construction site prevented residents from opening windows or hanging out clothes to dry. Complaints likened the neighborhood to the Sahara, with washing quickly becoming discolored due to the airborne dirt particles.

Richard Watson, a 35-year resident, showcased the extent of the dust problem, demonstrating how it had even settled on the inside of his windows and doorframes. Vivian Shelton expressed the frustration of being unable to open windows during hot weather, a result of the constant dust issues from the construction site.

The concerns raised by Bestwood residents highlight the need for greater consideration and adherence to regulations by construction companies, ensuring that new developments are carried out with minimal disruption to the local community.
