Nottinghamshire couple 'find 151 issues' at their new build home

A couple say they have been left 'stressed' after 151 issues were identified at their new build home in Nottinghamshire. Fiona and Paul Sims moved into a house at the Pastures development in Bilsthorpe in April this year.

However after moving into the property built by developers Gleeson they began noticing issues, tallying up around 60 faults. "We've refitted our kitchen twice because of issues, so we've had three sets of tiles and worktops," Mrs Sims told Nottinghamshire Live.

"The flooring was also substandard and the bannister wasn't the right length. The garage shutters also don't reach the walls." The couple, who downsized to the £212,000 three-bed property, said they then sought the help of a 'snagger', who identified a further 91 problems."

The purpose of a snagging report is to identify defects in your home for your housebuilder to fix.

"I feel like we're being hoodwinked," continued Mrs Sims, a 57-year-old nurse. "We worked all the way through the pandemic.

"We downsized because when we finish work we wanted to come home and relax. It was supposed to be stress-free living. It's been horrendous. We've had to pack our kitchen up twice and you end up at each other's throats."

Mrs Sims recalled one time she put a sign in her window saying 'don't buy a house here', in a bid to get the attention of Gleeson, which she said was "not remotely interested". "There's been many issues, not just with us.

"Some people haven't got drives, one's getting the front of their house replaced and another doesn't have a fence round their garden." A spokesperson for Gleeson said it had scheduled a meeting with Mrs Sims. "We are in communication with Mrs Sims and have been dealing with the complaints raised since legal completion," they said.

"We have recently been made aware of some additional concerns raised via a 'professional' snaggers report, and we have already scheduled a meeting with Mrs Sims to review the validity of these issue. (16th August). As a responsible developer, we will continue to work with Mrs Sims to rectify any genuine issues that fall below the required NHBC standards, as we do for all our customers."
